By Land or By Boat, Thousands Attend McGuire’s Summer Concert

Rain or shine, the show must go on!  Luckily, it was shine, and more than 8,000 people enjoyed the sounds of the Charlotte Symphony on June 22 on the EnergyExplorium lawn, and by boat as the sun set over Lake Norman.  Musicians played for a little over an hour, serenading guests with pieces which included selections from Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Held once a year, the Charlotte Symphony requires months of preparation and planning. It really does take an army to pull this event off every year, including nearly 80 staff, volunteers and security officers. Volunteers are critical to making guests feel welcome. In fact, you can often hear concert attendees praise volunteers and hand out loads of compliments about how much fun they had and how well organized the event was.

McGuire Nuclear Station is no stranger to hosting large events throughout the year. In fact, the summer concert kicked-off the EnergyExplorium’s busy summer season, with two movies planned for July and August. Like other nuclear plants, McGuire Nuclear Station hosts several community events throughout the year, but it is the only plant in the U.S. to hold an event of this magnitude. It’s not every day you hear people making plans to attend a free concert at a nuclear power plant! Not only is the event unique because of the large crowd it attracts, but the event is a testament of how safe and secure people feel about nuclear power. Like other nuclear plants in Duke Energy’s fleet, McGuire is recognized as being a good steward of the community, while keeping the safety and security of those living around the plant its number one priority.
